About Us

We’re a national company, but the word “local” in our
name is key. We produce the most complete, longest-lasting, user-friendly guides to nature science anywhere, and they are all area specific guides, created especially for the locality you’re interested in (see full list).

We’re also a family-friendly, community-involved company that donates a portion of our sales profits to environmental causes. In the pictures on this page, you can see us at work providing benches and kiosks along the shoreline, and helping to politically protect vital habitat to native and migratory birds.  We have collected many thousands of signatures, signing referendums that have led to city ballot measures, successfully preventing multi-billion dollar development projects that would have led to multiple skyscrapers on bay fill. We are currently working against a Cargill Salt proposal to develop a major portion of natural shoreline in the S.F. Bay area.

We’ve received numerous awards and recognition for our work, but they only reflect our collaborative efforts with many other volunteers. We do it because we love the natural world and feel we can make a difference, acting locally. You can help by simply turning the outdoors into fun for everyone, or by just sharing our Local Birds Guides and other products with others.

We are always interested in hearing from you as to how we can continue to do more.  I personally look forward to your feedback and support, which means the world to us.

Truly yours,

Mike Spence

President
